And so, continuing The Beatles theme from the last blog...
If you weren't aware by now, I've been writing a book.
For children.
You could in fact call it a children's book.
And if you were between the ages of 6 - 9 you might really enjoy it. I also hope you'd enjoy it at a considerably more advanced age than that because the chances are you could be reading it out loud to your mini audience.
Why do I mention this now? Because at last it is being published. 'Really!?' I hear you gasp. Yes really. I know that I've been on about it for so long that many of you thought it was a myth, one of those 'whatever happened to the Mayans' things (confused? Read the blog from September), but at last it is happening.
It has an ISBN number - I won't tell you what that is now because you'll have forgotten it when the time comes to order the thing - it has a publication date - 28th April 2016 - and it has some fantastic illustrations. No, I wish I could claim to have done them, but a very talented artist called Ian R Ward has done the honours. One of the first black and white drafts is shown here. Believe me you ought to see them in colour - stunning! If you'd like to see more of his work you might like to go to www.ianrward.co.uk I'm going to set up a new links section on this website so that you can look up his and other great sites.
So there we are. Now I suppose it is reasonable to expect that you think I will be resting on my laurels, counting the vast fortune that is undoubtedly coming my way and rehearsing acceptance speeches for the Booker prize as I wait to be enthroned as the children's laureate.
Unfortunately, that will not be the case, my name is not J.K. Rowling. As I sit lonely, penniless and starving in my garret (ok, technically mobile homes don't have garrets and Kate's here, but I'm trying to create atmosphere for God's sake!) There's the marketing to do. There's a sequel to pen - 'fraid so, perhaps even two! There'll be more blogs, tweets and publicity to organise.
And so dear friends, a plea. The publicity starts now. Tell your mates you know a famous author who has a fantastic new book about to be released. No, I know that I'm not famous - yet! You're just underestimating your own powers of persuasion! Put the word out there! Aim for the stars! Let the whole world know that, DOGNAPPED! by David J Robertson is coming, soon, to a merchandising outlet near you.
Pardon? No you can't have any commission, I'm a poor unknown author - for now!
